2020 MAAH Stone Book Award
Join the Museum of African American History, the James M. and Cathleen D. Stone Foundation, and the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate for the 2020 MAAH Stone Book Award Virtual Event. Now in its third year, the Award is an annual prize that encourages scholarship and writing within the field of African American history and culture by awarding a $25,000 prize and two $5,000 finalist prizes for exceptional adult non-fiction books written in a literary style.
The award event, which normally takes place in the historic African Meeting House on Beacon Hill, will be hosted by WGBH’s Callie Crossley and will feature interviews with the Award winners as well as appearances by the dynamic panel of jurors. In one of the most intense periods of Obama’s presidency including the murders of nine Black worshippers in Charleston, South Carolina and Supreme Court rulings deciding the rights of Americans to healthcare and marriage equality, Keenan takes us through the process of finding words to console, elevate, and contextualize these events, and shines light on his unique relationship with our 44th President.

60th Anniversary Event: Balancing Powers
The second virtual program in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of beginning of Ted Kennedy’s long and impactful career as a United States Senator will examine how Senator Kennedy drew upon his collaborations with 10 presidential administrations to achieve great policy strides and help shape the U.S. courts.
