Involucrate 2017: An Immersive Civic Engagement Experience in Celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month

The Edward M. Kennedy Institute and the Mauricio Gastón Institute for Latino Community Development and Public Policy welcome families to join us on Saturday, October 21, for a day of special Spanish-English bilingual programming that encourages civic engagement in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

El Instituto Edward M. Kennedy y el Instituto Mauricio Gastón Institute de Desarrollo de Comunidades Latinas y Políticas Públicas le dan la bienvenida a las familias que se acerquen el sábado 21 de octubre, para un día especial de programación bilingüe en español e inglés alentando la participación cívica y celebrando el mes de la herencia hispana.

Interactive activities will help kids and families learn about the legislative process, and the importance of being civically engaged and making their voices heard. This event is free of charge, with advance registration.

Las actividades interactivas ayudarán a los niños y familias a aprender sobre el proceso legislativo y la importancia de involucrarse cívicamente para que sus voces se hagan valer. Este evento es gratuito para los que se pre-registren online.

  • In the Future Senator program, 5-11 year old kids are introduced to the legislative process in the Institute’s full-scale Senate Chamber, featuring PBS’s Fetch! with Ruff Ruffman. En el programa Senador del Futuro, los niños de 5 a 11 años aprenden sobre el proceso legislativo en nuestra Cámara del Senado en tamaño real, con la participación especial de Fetch! with Ruff Ruffman de PBS.
  • Participants can create their own immigration law in the program Pathways to Citizenship. Crea tu propia ley de inmigración en el programa Camino a la Ciudadanía.
  • In Today’s Vote, cast a ballot on one of today’s most controversial topics: The DREAM Act. En Voto del Día, participa en una discusión y emite tu voto sobre una de las leyes más controversiales del momento: DREAM Act.
  • Ahead of the 2017 municipal elections, identify local issues and the qualities of a good leader by creating a political campaign poster. Llegan las elecciones municipales del 2017: identifica los problemas que afectan a tu comunidad y las características de un buen líder para crear un cartel de campaña política.

  • 2:00 p.m. Program concludes, Institute open until 5:00 p.m.

The moderated discussion will cover both sides of the Ranked Choice Voting initiative as Commonwealth voters prepare to head to the polls in November.
