About The 1787 Society

Named in honor of the 1787 Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, the 1787 Society is the Edward M. Kennedy Institute’s annual giving society, recognizing individuals and families who support the Institute’s mission through annual membership. Since its founding, members of the 1787 Society have helped more than 200,000 students experience the Institute’s interactive civic education programs, inspiring the next generation of informed and engaged citizens. Members enjoy year-round opportunities to stay connected to the Institute through special programs, exhibitions, and complimentary annual admission. The Society is comprised of four membership levels: 1787 Society, Senator’s Circle, Select Committee, and Chairman’s Council. Each level offers increasing opportunities to deepen members’ connection to the Institute while helping advance its mission.

Senator’s Circle recognizes annual gifts of $1,000+ and reflects a deeper commitment to the Institute’s mission. Members enjoy enhanced opportunities for personalized engagement, including private experiences that offer a closer look at the Institute’s collections, exhibitions, and work.

Select Committee recognizes annual gifts of $5,000+ and offers an introduction to the highest level of the 1787 Society. Through exclusive VIP receptions, private access to Institute leadership, and personalized tours that provide unique insight into the Institute’s mission and the impact of their support.

Chairman’s Council recognizes annual gifts of $10,000+ and represents the highest level of membership within the 1787 Society. Members demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to advancing civic education and the Institute’s mission while enjoying the Society’s most distinctive experiences, including the annual Chairman’s Council gathering at the Kennedy Family Cape House.

Your support of the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate allows more than 20,000 students each year to experience our award-winning, immersive civic education programming; and thousands more community members to attend public events focused on American democracy and the unique role of the U.S. Senate in our government.
