A New Music Video Mobilizing Voters to #JustVote: Edward M. Kennedy Institute Teams up With Global Citizen to Promote Their Just Vote Campaign

BOSTON - Aiming to accelerate momentum for voter participation just one week before the general election, the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate has teamed up with Global Citizen to launch jointly an original-composition music video highlighting the power and importance of voting.

Entitled “Keep Marching,” written and performed by Dustin Thomas, a/k/a O LOVER, the video links the critical importance of registering and voting to justice and equity movements dating back to the enactment of the 15th amendment, the women’s suffrage campaign that led to the enactment of the 19th Amendment in 1920, and the 1963 March on Washington up through today.

Victoria Reggie Kennedy, President of the Board and Co-Founder of the Kennedy Institute, said, “This new platform allows us to tell the powerful story of meaningful citizen action in an exciting and inspiring way. My late husband, Senator Edward Kennedy, believed deeply in the power of young people to effect positive change, and as this music video highlights, marching and voting can achieve that change. Global Citizen and the Kennedy Institute share a commitment to encouraging voter participation under the campaign theme Just Vote.

Through this music video, the Just Vote campaign speaks to young people who have made their voices heard through marches and demonstrations but have yet to be a force in elections. This year’s national election marks the first time that some 16 million U.S. citizens born between 1999 and 2002 –– a key target audience for the video –– will be able to cast a vote for president.

About O Lover
“There is so much more that unites us than divides us.” O Lover is the brain child of creative director and writer Dustin Thomas. Born of East African, Irish, and Native American descent, Dustin grew up farming in a small town in the American heartland before traveling the world as a performing artist. After hundreds of shows and speaking engagements across Australia, Indonesia, Russia, and Europe, Dustin settled in Los Angeles and built a network of visual artists, singers, songwriters, performers, and entrepreneurs from all different cultural backgrounds.
