Manager of Learning Experience Design (Full Time)

The Manager of Learning Experience Design is responsible for researching and writing new content modules for existing onsite and online civic education programs and projects.

Primary Purpose of Position:

The Manager of Learning Experience Design is responsible for researching and writing new content modules for existing onsite and online civic education programs and projects, as well as working collaboratively with other staff to design and implement new civic education programs. The Manager of Learning Experience Design will also facilitate a variety of onsite and virtual programs and workshops.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES*:

  • Work collaboratively with other staff on new civic education instructional design initiatives including digitally-supported program infrastructure and new content modules;
  • Manage existing content within the organization’s content management systems for onsite and virtual programs, and web-based resources, including screen content, facilitator scripts, lesson plans, student resources;
  • Oversee workflow for new content updates, and train staff on new content modules
  • Collaborate with other staff to create new content for existing educational programs, and to set benchmarks for the deployment and presentation of new educational programs, including scripting, game play, style, tone, and approach to material;
  • Collaborate with other staff on setting of program learning goals and ensuring that programs and program delivery are historically and politically accurate, culturally responsive, meet the educational needs of teachers and students, and meet the standards of excellence set by the organization;
  • Lead trainings, workshops, presentations, and demonstrations of educational programs, both in-house and for partners, conferences, and other professional gatherings;
  • Facilitate educational programs for K-12 students, youth, college, and adult audiences as needed.
  • Manage and execute when necessary program set-up protocols for Chamber programs including managing and troubleshooting of A/V equipment and video conferencing
  • Plan, direct & oversee the Learning Experience Design activities for the Institute and related reporting. The manager is responsible for managing resources allocated to the work.
  • Other editorial and presentational responsibilities as needed.

EDUCATION: Bachelor of Arts degree in Education or History or equivalent record of professional achievement and qualifications with a demonstrated track record of success.

EXPERIENCE: A proven record of understanding and implementing best practices in civic education or cultural organizations, including experience creating and iterating programmatic content for school, youth and adult audiences. A demonstrated record of work experience in progressively more responsible positions to include operating in a hands-on learning environment, collaborating with and training others, and/or working directly with students in an educational setting. Minimum of 3-5 years of related experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) with internal and external audiences.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and tracking skills, and attention to detail
  • Skilled in researching, designing, and writing compelling and culturally responsive history and civics programs for informal educational settings, including museums, or civic learning organizations. Facilitating educational programs in both one-to-one and large group settings with students, teachers, youth, and/or adult audiences. Ability to accommodate, problem-solve, and respond skillfully while working with large groups.
  • Proven ability to design learning experiences for and work with young people, and provide experiences for people from different social and cultural backgrounds, with a variety of learning styles and needs.
  • An interest in and basic working knowledge of politics, government, and the legislative process
  • The ability to analyze, synthesize, and reference a variety of primary and secondary historical and contemporary sources
  • Ability to design for and work comfortably with a variety of A/V and presentation technologies
  • Familiarity with state and national civic learning standards
  • Ability to demonstrate individual leadership and work as part of a collaborative team
  • Ability to create and maintain good working relationships with a variety of diverse internal and external team members
  • Ability to represent the Kennedy Institute positively to the general public
  • Willingness and ability to work nights and weekends as necessary
  • Familiarity with Adobe InDesign a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands and work environment described for this position are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Duties are performed indoors in an office/workstation environment. Duties may require extended periods of standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, and long periods of computer viewing.
